We value literacy as a basic human need. We value respect as a tool for fostering growth, increasing accessibility and collaboration to ensure an inclusive learning environment. Our vision is to remove barriers and provide support in relentless pursuit of a literate community. Our mission is to support individuals by building multi faceted literacy skills.
About Us
Established in 1983, The Literacy Council has served adults striving to reach goals like get a job, earn citizenship, or read to a child by providing free, confidential tutoring in reading, writing, math, English as a second language, computers, and more. Tutors and volunteers are trained and sessions with students are scheduled based on individual need. Volunteers do more than just tutoring. Lawn care, filing, outreach events, and fundraising are just a few examples!
