About Us

Misnomer Dance Theater is an 11-year old dance company based in Brooklyn, NY. The company's artistic work has been named by The New York Times as one of the “Top 10 Dance Performances of 2006”, and one of Dance Magazine's “25 to Watch” in 2007. The company's innovative strategies to use the web to build audiences and continue engagement beyond the theater has caught the attention of countless organizations in the arts and beyond. This has recently resulted in Misnomer receiving significant funding from Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, Nonprofit Finance Fund, and The Rockefeller Foundation towards the development of an online Audience Engagement Platform to better connect arts audiences and artists. In 2008, Misnomer was featured in documents by the Sundance Channel and Apple Computers, Bjork’s “Wanderlust” music video, and articles by The Wall Street Journal, Business Week Magazine, and Crain's Business New York.
