  • Mission

    The mission of the Pennsylvania Prison Society is to advocate for a humane, just and restorative correctional system, and to promote a rational approach to criminal justice issues.

    About Us

    Members of the Prison Society are partners in a historic legacy of social justice and receive a number of benefits including:

    ​ --Correctional Forum, a newsletter that keeps readers informed about criminal justice issues and the work of the Prison Society;​

    --Graterfriends, a newsletter that provides news and a venue for prisoners' voices;

    --Periodic news and information about criminal justice and correctional issues from the Prison Society; and

    --An invitation to attend the Annual Meeting held in May, which features relevant keynote speakers, and a reception.

    You can also become an Official Visitor.

    Official Visitors are trained advocates for the just and humane treatment of prisoners. Members of the Prison Society, they monitor prison conditions and visit prisoners at Benner and Rockview State Correctional Institutions as well as Centre County Prison to assist them with issues ranging from serious medical concerns to re-connecting with family members.
