    About Us

Animis (from Latin animus, -i "soul, life") Foundation is a non-profit sanctuary dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation ... of domestic animals wildlife. The sanctuary was established in Ocala, Florida in 2010 and incorporates 140 acres of lush tropical woodlands and sprawling green pastures, a true paradise. Most of the residents of the sanctuary have been abused, starved and neglected. Several have come from seizures by other rescue groups including the Humane Society and the Marion County Shelter. Currently over 600 animals call Animis their home. These include horses, water buffalo, cows, llamas, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, exotic parrots, emu, rabbits, ferrets, cats, dogs, deer, marsupials, rodents, reptiles, and two camels.

Animis provides a unique and much needed service to the public by taking in injured and orphaned wildlife throughout Marion County and even into Alachua, Volusia & Orange counties. There is no charge for this service. The wildlife department at the sanctuary cares for and releases back into the wild over 500 native animals native to Florida each year. To ensure the best possible care the sanctuary employs a full time federal and state licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

The sanctuary runs solely on donations made by the generosity of the public and the founders.
