The mission of St. John's Well Child and Family Centers is to eliminate health disparities and foster community well-being through the provision of the highest quality care and the promotion of health equity and social justice in south Los Angeles.
In order to carry out the elements of its mission relating to the promotion of health equity and social justice and the reduction of health disparities, the Program in Social Medicine and Health Equity (PSM&HE) was founded in the fall of 2008. The PSM&HE coordinates research, clinical, advocacy, and outreach programs with community partners, including affordable housing developers, health promoters/promotoras, community organizers, and other social service providers and advocates to address social determinants of health in south Los Angeles.
