About Us

The Evergreen State College is a nationally recognized, innovative four-year, public liberal arts college of 4,100 undergraduate and graduate students located in Olympia, Washington. The college also has a campus (approx. 200 students) in the ethnically diverse Hilltop area of Tacoma. Evergreen proposes to serve 165 low-income, potential first-generation college students from Tacoma by providing year-round academic support programs to help them meet graduation and college admissions standards, graduate from high school, and enroll and succeed in postsecondary education.

Upward Bound & Upward Bound Math-Science are U.S. Department of Education grants designed to increase postsecondary enrollment and graduation rates of participating students. The grants fund the Upward Bound Tacoma program, which provides year-round academic support and college readiness opportunities for 165 participants. The program serves students from communities marginalized by the institution of higher education, including youth from low-income backgrounds who will be among the first generation in their families to graduate from college. Upward Bound Tacoma’s services to students from Mount Tahoma & Lincoln High Schools supports the mission of The Evergreen State College to provide outreach and services to local communities.
