About Us

For 75 years, Catholic Social Services (CSS) has been empowering people in need, regardless of faith or background, with the tools they need to reach their full potential. We are an antipoverty agency focused on helping working-poor families stabilize and build a better tomorrow and on helping low-income seniors age with grace and independence. Services are provided to address a variety of problems throughout the life cycle and include:

Family Services

  • Case Management: Our case manager can help clients acquire affordable housing, learn how to manage their finances, find childcare, find jobs, access benefits and community resources, and more.
  • Our Lady of Guadalupe Center: CSS works to reduce poverty by addressing its root causes within the immigrant Hispanic community concentrated on the west side of Columbus. We provide services including a food pantry, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, nutrition classes, preventative health screenings, legal and immigration consultations and referrals, and comprehensive case management.
  • St. Francis Center: Serves Scioto County as a one-stop community center providing families access to a wide variety of services from Catholic Social Services and its key partners including hot meals, clothing and household items, food, and emergency assistance.
  • Stay the Course®: Case managers will help low-income students persist in school and ultimately graduate, equipping them with credentials that increase earning power finances, find appropriate housing, and more.

Senior Services

  • Foster Grandparent: Low-income seniors receive a stipend to tutor and mentor at-risk youth in schools.
  • Money Management: Social workers/case managers help clients establish budgets and manage their own finances.
  • Payee Program: Provides bill pay assistance for seniors and people with disabilities who are unable to manage their financial affairs to ensure their basic needs are covered each month.
  • Senior Companion: Active, low-income seniors receive a stipend to visit home-bound seniors to help reduce social isolation.
