The Mercer County Chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters was founded in 1973 by a group of educators and concerned citizens. Their goal was to serve and support the unmet needs of at-risk youth, many of whom were impoverished, living in single-parent homes, and losing their way in turbulent times.
Fashioned after, and affiliated with the national, award-winning agency of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (founded in 1904), our chapter remains as vital a part of the social service structure of Mercer County as it was when it was founded. Since 2002, when it was reincorporated, BBBS-Mercer has positively impacted the lives of over 8,000 at-risk children in Mercer County.
