The C.A.R.E. Program was developed specifically for the purpose of assisting victims of domestic violence immediately following an act of violence. Their response is immediate and intense; volunteers respond by pager to the home of a Survivor within 30 minutes of the assailants' arrest (and only when an arrest has occurred). CARE volunteers provide empathetic listening, education in the dynamics of power/control, and tools for empowerment. Volunteers assist survivors in developing a safety plan, obtaining shelter (if necessary), and accessing available community resources. C.A.R.E. responds when an arrest has been made in the city of Lansing, Lansing Township, East Lansing, Meridian Township, and Michigan State University campus.
