The UpValley Family Centers works in Calistoga, St. Helena and surrounding towns located at the north end of the Napa Valley, approximately 80 miles north of San Francisco. Calistoga is known for its spas, hot springs, and vineyards. St. Helena is known for its idillic landscapes and wine industry. Approximately 40% of the city's population is Hispanic. Based on local school data, in Calistoga 75% of the children are enrolled in free lunch; in St. Helena about 45% children are enrolled in that program.
Limited affordable housing, low-wage employment opportunities and language barriers contributed to increased poverty in our community.
In 1999, Calistoga Family Center was created by a team of educators and community members who believed healthy families are the foundation of a strong community. IN 2005. St. Helena started a Family Center as well, and in 2014 both organizations merged creating the UpValley Family Centers.
Today the UPValley Family Centers serve as the heart of community services, implementing 6 different programs with several specific initiatives. The program are in the areas of: Health and Wellness, Education, Economic Success, Seniors, Immigrant Integration and Community Connections. The Center works collaboratively with community partners to improve family life.
