Arm In Arm was founded in 1980 by community leaders in response to rising need in the surrounding community. Thirty-six years later, as the job market and the economy remain challenging for low-income families and individuals, we continue to work with our community in both long-established and new ways to address the immediate needs of food, housing and access to community resources while promoting longer term stability through practical, individualized support. We operate on the principle that food and housing security are the necessary first steps to more lasting self-sufficiency for the people who turn to Arm In Arm in a time of need. Together, our professional staff members and our experienced volunteers provide integrated services in Housing Stability and Homelessness Prevention; Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Education; and Workforce Development, including Driver’s License Restoration. From three accessible locations we form a trusted community presence and stabilizing force for upwards of 5,000 low-income families and individuals of Mercer County. A core aspect of Arm In Arm’s mission since day one, our Homelessness Prevention services stabilize between 500 and 600 households in a given twelve month period through emergency financial aid delivered directly to the property owner, rental management company, utility, or other creditor. Building on our history of homelessness prevention through rent, mortgage and utilities assistance and rapid re-housing through security deposit assistance, in 2012 Arm In Arm launched a Housing Stability Shallow Subsidy and Case Management Program to address some families’ and individuals’ greater need through comprehensive case management services.
