About Us

Fusion Leadership

We prepare leaders that are rooted spiritually and theologically and are cross-sector changemakers with the vision, resilience, and skill to bring about a world where all can thrive. At PSR, we call this Fusion Leadership, where students are taught and motivated to transform society.

Since 1866, Pacific School of Religion has been recognized as an innovative center for progressive Christian scholarship, social change, and leadership development. At our unique location in Berkeley California, we are part of the Graduate Theological Union, a consortium of the largest theological faculty in the United States.

As a progressive Christian seminary and graduate school, Pacific School of Religion is firmly committed to serving the church and non-profit organizations. PSR welcomes students from all denominations and religious backgrounds. We embrace diversity and are committed to racial, gender, sexual orientation, economic, and social justice.

Ancient Wisdom

We draw on the depth and breadth of Christian teachings and practices, in collaborative conversation with a wide range of sources of Ancient Wisdom from a variety of spiritual and intellectual traditionsto form and transform leaders and scholars and to provide solutions to today’s challenges.

At Pacific School of Religion, we are shaping the global conversation of social transformation through innovative scholarship and broad public engagement.

We are building on our tradition of boldness to bring theological education into conversation with the ingenuity of historically marginalized and under-represented communities and the leading-edge innovation of congregations, companies, and social movements.

Stackable Curriculum

The curriculum at PSR offers students the flexibility needed for a rapidly changing world. The graduate curriculum offers a student the opportunity of earning a Graduate Certificate after the first year, a Master of Arts in Social Transformation after the second year, and a Master of Divinity degree after the third year (provided students have met all of the academic requirements).

We call this approach a Stackable Curriculum and are the first seminary in the nation to offer this unique approach to graduate education. A student is able to get the education they need, when they need it, and go out to make a difference in the world.

First Seminary on the West Coast

As the oldest seminary on the West Coast, we are continuing to do what we’ve always done since PSR was founded in 1866: serving the church and transforming society.

We will blow your mind, embolden your heart, and strengthen your hands. Come change the world.
