About Us

Save Venice Inc. is the leading American nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the artistic heritage of Venice, Italy. Since 1971, Save Venice has worked to preserve, protect, and promote the art and culture of Venice and has funded the conservation of more than 550 projects comprising over 1,000 individual artworks.

In 2015, Save Venice established the Rosand Library & Study Center in Venice, creating a nexus for the research of Venetian art, history, and conservation. Save Venice also provides grants for fellowships, exhibitions, and publications to advance Venetian scholarship and conservation.

After the floods of November 2019–the second worst in Venice's history–Save Venice created the "Immediate Response Fund" to ensure a sustained reserve for disaster relief and preventive conservation to protect Venice's most vulnerable sites going forward.

Save Venice is headquartered in New York City with an office in Venice. The New York office has four full-time employees and the Venice office has two full-time employees. The organization funds the work of dozens of expert restorers at any one time. In recent years our conservators have treated world-famous masterpieces by Carpaccio, Tintoretto, Titian, Veronese, and many others. The organization has more than 40 active restoration projects and educational initiatives underway, above all two major campaigns to commemorate the organization’s 50th Anniversary in 2021: the restoration of the Italian Synagogue in the Ghetto of Venice and treatment 2,442 square feet of Byzantine apse mosaics in the basilica of Santa Maria Assunta on the island of Torcello.
