About Us

The TFM is a Maryland non-profit organization established in 1991 by the Montgomery County Human Relations Commission in an effort to address issues related to the growing population of at-risk children and youth in our community. The TFM was established due to the mounting evidence that mentoring could be used as a successful tool for identifying and engaging at-risk children and youth.

For the past 15 years, the TFM has provided technical services and training to organizations, communities, and schools that request assistance in designing, developing and implementing mentor programs. As a community-based umbrella organization, the TFM’s methods are designed to assist young people live a positive life with the help of caring, well-trained and dedicated volunteer mentors.

The TFM’s mission is to enhance the community’s understanding of mentoring, and to expand access to mentoring programs for at-risk / under-achieving students. Our primary goals are to help communities organize successful mentoring programs and to provide technical support and continuing education opportunities to mentoring programs throughout the county.
