  • About Us

uNight: For the Children of Uganda is a not-for-profit organization with offices in New York and Gulu, whose mission is to empower youth to help rebuild northern Uganda.

Our strategies to fulfill this mission include that:

In Uganda, uNight: • Cultivates a generation of young Ugandan leaders and civic-minded entrepreneurs who with the right support have the needed practical skills and confidence necessary to: • Secure their own and each other’s future; • Provide for their extended families; • Stimulate northern Uganda’s private sector and create jobs; and • Revitalize and rejuvenate their community and the larger region affected by the war. • Provides to these Ugandan youth: • Financial and technical assistance, supervised by locally-based leaders; • Educational training, psychological counseling and other concrete support; and • Relationships in the US and Uganda to benefit them now and in the long-term.

Moving forward our strategic objectives – to achieve our Uganda goals more fully – are to continue to: • Develop viable partnerships between our US constituencies and: o Ugandan youth; and o Ugandan leaders who actively support youth development. • Learn from our Ugandan partners what works best on the ground to: o Build upon and expand existing programs so they become sustainable; o Create new programs, based on the needs and available resources; and o Replicate successful programs for greater scale and increased impact.

In the US, uNight: • Mobilizes a diverse group of US students, young professionals, human rights activists joined in solidarity and support with Ugandans in the Diaspora; and • Builds an effective, engaged US constituency for northern Uganda.

Moving forward our strategic objectives – to achieve our US goals more fully – are to continue to: • Raise awareness in the US about the conflict in northern Uganda; • Call for an immediate commencement of steps needed for sustainable peace; and • Create a committed movement of young US leaders for northern Uganda to: o Offer pre- and post-conflict advocacy work with Ugandan youth; and o Provide access to contacts and information as well as other specific assistance that Ugandan youth tell us they need.
