West Kortright Centre
- New York
The West Kortright Centre is now in its 42nd year as a not-for-profit cultural and community center housed in a restored 1850 country church building in a pristine farm valley near East Meredith, near the border of Delaware and Otsego County. Since 1975, when neighbors to the abandoned church rallied to save it for community use and arts programming, our care for and adaptive reuse of the building and grounds, careful management, and consistently high-quality programming have established The Centre as an institution acknowledged across NY and in neighboring states as a model community arts center.
The mission of The West Kortright Centre is to promote the value of the arts by sponsoring an eclectic blend of performances, hands-on educational workshops, community events, and visual arts exhibits. The Centre fulfills its mission by:
• Providing intimate artistic and cultural experiences in which audiences have the opportunity to hear, view, and personally meet the performing artists
• Preserving the legacy of our beautiful rural setting and historic church building
• Developing artistic awareness and appreciation among people of all ages.
• Advocating for the arts as an important aspect of the quality of rural life, working in collaboration with artists, agencies and institutions.
