Vision Ed Inc.
Vision Ed works to ensure that making things is intrinsic to education. Youth engaged with conceiving, designing and building things develop high level, thoughtful, adaptable thinking skills that provide them with the competence to face the global challenges ahead.
We work with youth and educators to support authentic learning experiences using technology, giving the learner control of both design and creation. In doing this, Vision Ed is counteracting deep-seated trends in education. We pay particular attention to our impact on disenfranchised student populations as well as youth who have been failed by traditional education, in New York City and beyond.
Today’s educational system – and our society – are technology dependent, yet not technology savvy. Vision Ed changes this by designing innovative curricular units, training teachers to use them, and reaching the neediest student populations.
Vision Ed, Inc. was founded in 2002. It’s sister organization, Vision Education & Media, is a business that provides afterschool and in-school programming in NYC. Vision Ed Inc. received national recognition in 2009 when it was awarded the prestigious MacArthur Digital Media & Learning grant, being one of 16 awardees from 1,100 applicants. It was also funded by the Gates Foundation as a partner for two Bronx schools, both of which have far exceeded area rates of attendance and graduation. Vision Ed Inc's staff has provided 300+ teacher trainings in NYC public schools, reaching 3,000+ teachers. In 2013 it was one of the few community-based organizations to be awarded the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant in Round 6 as the lead provider of programming.
