About Us

Engineers Without Borders - CCNY (EWB-CCNY) was established in 2005 to partner with developing communities worldwide in order to improve their quality of life. We are a collection of students from varied disciplines who work with professional advisors and faculty mentors to plan, design, and implement humanitarian projects in Omoa, Honduras. We work with local government and regional non-governmental organizations. We educate new engineers and grow future leaders through community service.

The City College of New York Student Chapter of Engineers Without Borders has just returned from visiting a community in need in Honduras called Milla Tres. This community was severely impacted by an earthquake in 2009 and has been struggling to rebuild a dysfunctional water system. Families do not have access to treated water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and bathing. There are a multitude of health disorders attributed to the lack of access to treated water, including persistent gastrointestinal illness, ocular afflictions, and skin disorders. Women and children have to carry large containers of water from dirty, polluted streams. We are currently planning a project to develop a new water system and distribution center in Milla Tres.
