  • About Us

The Caterpillar Lab is a nonprofit educational organization based in southern New Hampshire that fosters curiosity, ecological awareness, and connection with the natural world through close encounters with live caterpillars.

Each year, thousands of caterpillars representing hundreds of native species are reared at the Lab and shared through exhibits, programs, and field experiences across New England and beyond. These encounters serve as an entry point into deeper exploration of ecology, biodiversity, and the complex relationships that shape the living world around us.

In addition to its public programs, The Caterpillar Lab engages in research, photography, film, and creative initiatives that help document and communicate the diversity and life histories of these often-overlooked organisms.

Though the Lab’s focus is specific, its work opens a window into broader ideas — from ecological interconnection and climate change to the intersection of science and art, and the importance of conserving the natural communities that sustain us.

The Caterpillar Lab remains a small organization with a broad imagination, working to create meaningful, memorable encounters with the natural world.
