About Us

Founded in 1986, YAGC is an accredited, 501(c)3, community-based, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of runaway, homeless, displaced, and other “at-risk” youth and young adults through the provision of a broad array of services and supports.

YAGC was founded in 1986, growing from a collaborative of social services agencies organized to assess the available resources for homeless and displaced male youth and young adults. In 1988, YAGC opened its doors as a shelter after being approved for City of Atlanta Community Development Block Grant funding in response to the dramatic rise in Atlanta’s male youth and young adults needing shelter. Since then, YAGC has evolved its services to meet the challenging needs of its target population, and today, provides a wide range of services. These services include: emergency and long-term housing, permanent supportive housing, home-based prevention services, crisis intervention, mentoring, afterschool/summer enrichment programming, and other services. Through all services and offerings, a holistic, wrap-around approach has been adopted, and besides core services, clients have access to: comprehensive needs assessment and treatment planning; individual, group and family counseling by in-house licensed therapists; educational assessments and enrollment assistance; case management; life and prevention skills training; medical, mental health, and substance abuse treatment referrals; and aftercare follow-up.
