Mission
We use American Indian culture to heal addiction and strengthen community.
The mission of Friendship House is to promote healing and wellness in the American Indian community by providing high quality substance abuse prevention, treatment, and recovery services while integrating cultural and spiritual traditions.
Our vision is to break the cycle of substance abuse by providing a supportive, holistic, and healing environment that is culturally relevant to American Indians/Alaska Natives, develop connections with our proud American Indian/Alaska Native heritage and strengthen and empower a personal recovery process to restore the balance of mind, body and spirit.
About Us
Our female clients with children birth to 5 years become residents at our Women's Lodge in Oakland, CA for up to one year. During that time, clients are immersed in both American Indian cultural practices and Western approaches for substance abuse recovery and prevention, as well as child development sessions.
The Lodge has childcare onsite where the Site Supervisor, teacher, and mothers collaborate. With the help of staff, mothers develop parenting skills and strengthen the bond with their child.
