Literacy Center of West Michigan
Literacy is about understanding and applying language correctly, enriching our lives at home, at work, and in the community. At the Literacy Center of West Michigan, we are committed to helping West Michigan residents reach their literacy potential, opening the door to a lifetime of opportunity.
Our proven, one-to-one tutoring program pairs adults who have literacy challenges with committed, trained volunteer tutors who guide their learners along the road to literacy and enhanced self-confidence. English as a Second Language also is offered to adults who would like to learn or improve their English reading, writing, and speaking skills. Learners meet one-on-one or in small groups with trained volunteer tutors.
Volunteer tutors are always needed to help area adults experience the independence and improved self-confidence that comes with literacy. All that is needed is a desire to help others and a weekly, two-hour commitment for a minimum of one year.
Training for volunteers is provided.
