Teacher Bound: The Upward Bound Program at Wheelock College

The Teacher Bound: The Upward Bound Program is connected with Wheelock College. Wheelock's mission is to improve the lives of children and families. Wheelock has been a private college in the Boston area since 1888. Wheelock College has been awarded a four year Upward Bound Trio grant to provide early outreach, encouragement, and support to 50 students from several Boston Public High Schools. Teacher Bound at Wheelock College is the only Upward Bound program in the country that was funded to also be a teacher development program for recruiting Boston Public School students to become educators in an urban setting.

The Teacher Bound: The Upward Bound Program at Wheelock College program serves 50 high school students from the Boston, Massachusetts area. The Teacher Bound Programs mission is to prepare the Teacher Bound scholars for college and beyond. Through our classes, activities, and our mentoring program we are able to give the students the support they need. The scholars in the Teacher Bound program will learn about teaching in Urban America and discuss their ideas. The scholars at the program will also be able to interact with faculty and students to experience that college is an accepting and accessible place for them.
