To inspire and enable all young people from throughout the Pee Dee Area, especially those who need us most, to become productive, responsible, and caring citizens
Our work helps more than 3,000 youth ages 6 to 18 each year at seven club sites (Florence, Hartsville, Hemingway, Johnsonville, Lake City, Pamplico, and Timmonsville). 75 public schools and 34 Zip Codes are represented in our membership, and 91% of Club members are served by no other youth organization. 86% live below the poverty line, and 72% live in single-parent households.
Working with local, state, and national partners, we serve youth where they are and equip them with the tools they need to succeed in school and in life.
Our Florence Club has specific outreach to youth affected by homelessness. In partnership with DSS, we serve a significant number of children in the foster care system and provide a consistent presence for those young people during difficult times.
Boys & Girls Clubs give children the opportunity to develop skills such as creative thinking, problem solving, communication, and self-direction. Our programs offer a variety of outlets and learning opportunities to build character, develop life skills, provide new experiences, encourage healthy lifestyles, self-esteem, and mental health, and prepare youth to live and lead in a diverse, global, and integrated world economy.
With regular attendance, we see 86% of our Club members improving academic performance, 80% improving their behavior, and 94% enjoying learning new things. We also see a reduced rate of smoking or drug and alcohol use (87% of our teens vs. 65% nationally), and an increase in community involvement and volunteering (65% of teen members vs. 25% U.S. adults).
Our promise to the youth of the Pee Dee Area is to provide a safe environment and have a positive impact on their lives. Our alumni will graduate from high school ready for work or college.
Our promise to the communities of the Pee Dee Area is to uphold high ethical standards in all areas, especially in overseeing our finances, collecting and reporting data, being good stewards of the donor dollar, and representing ourselves to the public.
Our vision is to be the best youth-serving organization in the Pee Dee by providing an outstanding Club experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who enters our doors. We want all members to graduate from high school, have a plan for the future, demonstrate good character, and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
