  • Mission

The Texas Center for Infectious Disease will medically, behaviorally, and socially treat tuberculosis and Hansen's disease patients and advance the nation's prevention and treatment of infectious disease through person-centered care, collaboration, research, and education.

    About Us

Volunteer programs have been an important part of the Texas Center for Infectious Disease (TCID) since 1953, when the San Antonio State Tuberculosis Hospital was established. Volunteers are involved in providing opportunities and activities for the patients, assisting staff with ongoing service projects, fundraising initiatives, and more

The Volunteer Service Council provides services through the generosity of community agencies, civil organizations, private donors and grants while working within authorities granted by DSHS and state law. All opportunities offered by TCID that involve patients are with noninfectious patients. Infection control is our top priority and assure safety to all of our visitors.
