Public Allies New York

Mission 

Our mission is to create a just and equitable society and the diverse leadership to sustain it. We are changing the face and practice of leadership in communities across the country by demonstrating our conviction that everyone can lead, and that lasting social change results when citizens of all backgrounds step up, take responsibility, and work together. 

In 1992, a diverse group of young social entrepreneurs were helped by a number of established community and national leaders to create Public Allies, believing that there were many energetic, talented young people who wanted to address critical issues in their communities and many organizations and communities who could benefit from their contributions.

Through our signature AmeriCorps program, Public Allies identifies talented leaders from diverse backgrounds and advances their professional development through a ten month program of full-time, paid apprenticeship in nonprofit organizations, weekly leadership trainings, and team service projects.
