  • Mission

MCCNY Charities, Inc. encompasses the social service ministries of Metropolitan Community Church of New York (MCCNY). Through providing social services for the homeless and the hungry, including people living with HIV/AIDS, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI+) youth, and building a sense of community, MCCNY Charities, Inc. furthers the broader mission of MCCNY in bringing the world to just and right relationship. MCCNY Charities operates a shelter for LGBTQI+ homeless youth (Sylvia’s Place) and the Sylvia Rivera Food Pantry, which provides free groceries to low-income and HIV+ New Yorkers. We also host a number of additional services including a free health clinic for LGBTQI individuals.

    About Us

Over 2 million New Yorkers struggle to afford enough food. Almost half of that number are children. The Sylvia Rivera Food Pantry is committed to making it easy for New Yorkers to get the healthy food they need, including fresh fruits and vegetables. Each New Yorker who utilizes our pantry leaves with enough food to feed a family of two. We also acknowledge that those living with HIV/AIDS have specific nutritional needs and are likely to struggle economically as well. Although MCCNY and The Sylvia Rivera Food Pantry have a well-known and longtime history within the LGBTQI community, we work with all low-income and marginalized people. The Sylvia Rivera Food Pantry seeks to continually broaden the sense of community that New York so readily embraces.
