  • Mission

Desert Compost is the definitive resource for composting in the Coachella Valley. Through education, consulting and advocacy, Desert Compost helps Coachella Valley neighbors learn about composting as a way to conserve water, prevent waste, grow healthy food, and sequester carbon. Collectively, these activities reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fight climate change.

    About Us

Desert Compost organized as a Coachella Valley community initiative in 2021. Desert Compost established the desert’s first community composting site and we’ve continued to work, building connections between individuals, schools, organizations, businesses and municipalities who want to reduce food waste and regenerate the Earth.

Desert Compost was founded on the principle that composting, in its varied forms, is an economical, convenient way for members of our community to make an immediate impact on our physical environment and our society. The composting techniques we teach can be replicated by anyone who wants to get involved and the end product, rich soil amendments, can create local solutions to food insecurity. The compost we make together today will heal the planet tomorrow.
