Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village
- New York
The Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village (ASYV) is a residential living and learning community built to transform and empower Rwanda's most vulnerable youth. Modeled after Yemin Orde, an Israeli youth village built to care for orphans of the Holocaust, ASYV was established in 2007 as a response to Rwanda’s persistent orphan crisis, an enduring consequence of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
What makes ASYV unique is that the Village uses a holistic model to care for its young people. In addition to a formal secondary school education, students have access to comprehensive health and wellness care, diverse extracurricular programming, and the warmth and love of a family environment.
Through ASYV’s programming, Rwanda’s at-risk youth gain the skills and confidence they need to build lives of dignity and contribute to a better world.
