About Us

If you're 50+ and can volunteer time to tutor and mentor a young student, we need you! AARP Foundation Experience Corps is a proven program made up of volunteers who are dedicated to helping children become great readers before finishing third grade. Working collaboratively with teachers and other volunteers, you can change the course of a child's life by sharing your wisdom and experience. Our volunteers have already tutored thousands of kindergarten to third grade children in schools across Philadelphia. With your help, we can do even more.

Qualifications:

  • You must be aged 50 or older
  • Possess a GED or High School diploma, at minimum
  • Be able to pass a security clearance background check
  • Attend pre-service and all other trainings
  • Commit to two or three days per week for the 2021-22 school year (October-May)

If you are ready to help a child improve his or her reading skills, join us for an online information session – Wednesdays, 11:00 a.m. through September 2021. For more details, please contact Lavonne Nichols at 267-592-4459 or lnichols@aarp.org
