The mission of HSPVA Friends is to cultivate support and appreciation for The High School for the Performing
and Visual Arts locally, nationally, and internationally in order to enhance
educational, professional, and artistic opportunities for current and future
students of HSPVA.
HSPVA Friends began in 1979 as a private, non-profit support organization awarding college scholarships and summer arts workshop experiences to students at Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA). In 1997, HSPVA Friends expanded its mission to address a broad range of needs at the school, including musical instruments and art supplies, specialized technology and equipment, arts publications, master classes by professional artists, and the school's participation in national art conferences and competitions.
HSPVA Friends is governed by an eleven-member Board of Directors and is supported by an Advisory Board comprised of more than fifty civic leaders representing some of Houston's major arts organizations, universities, and corporations.
