  • Mission

    Louisa County Historical Society is a community-based organization whose mission is to bring Louisa County history to life! The LCHS accomplishes its mission by preserving and promoting the County’s historic documents and artifacts and recording and sharing the important and untold stories of past Louisans.

    About Us

    The LCHS was established in 1966 and is a Section 501(c)3 charitable organization. The Society also operates the Sargeant Museum of Louisa County History and Heritage Farm located at 214 Fredericksburg Avenue in Louisa, Virginia. LCHS holds over 10,000 items its archives and 1,000 items in its collections and growing number of oral histories. The Purcell Research Library located in the Sargeant Museum contains numerous resources valuable to family researchers. LCHS hosts many educational programs and special events throughout the year and participates in community events and other outreach initiatives.
