About Us

The mission of the San Diego Model Railroad Museum is to preserve the heritage of railroading through a series of miniature representations of California railroads, research and preserve the history of model railroading, and educate the public in the many different aspects of railroading.


The San Diego Model Railroad Museum is the largest and only accredited scale Model Railroad Museum in the United States. SDMRM has collections of some of the first scale model trains ever to be built in the entire world!


The Model Railroad Museum has over 27,000 square feet of exhibiting layouts featuring the world famous Tehachapi Pass Exhibit, Historic San Diego and Arizona Eastern Exhibit, SoCal's Largest N'scale Exhibit, O-Guage Exhibit, and award winning Toy Train Gallery.
