Organization: Located in Central California along the shores of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, Camp SEA Lab offices are housed at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB). The CSUMB Foundation serves as the primary fiscal agent.
The Friends of Camp SEA Lab filed as a California 501©(3) non-profit corporation in October 2002.
Camp SEA Lab is a youth-oriented marine science education program located along the shores of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Camp SEA Lab maintains strong academic and programmatic ties to area universities and to regional marine-related institutions to offer quality, real-world programming.
Camp SEA Lab fills a unique niche in the area. Despite the rich marine resources in the region and the lure that the ocean holds for many youth, none of the 15 science and environmental education camps in Central California focus exclusively on marine and coastal science studies.
The major goals of Camp SEA Lab are to:
Ø Ensure future stewardship of coastal and ocean resources. Ø Encourage recruitment and enhance diversity in the ocean sciences and technology. Ø Provide a model for community involvement in ocean science education. Ø Prepare youth to make sound decisions about their careers and education paths. Ø Provide youth with first hand knowledge and experience in ocean science and technology.
