Acts Of Kindness Cabaret
Acts Of Kindness Cabaret (AOK Cabaret) is a volunteer, not-for-profit association of cabaret professionals passionate about taking what we o well and doing good things with it. We believe in the inspiring power of simple kindness, as well as the artistic value of modern cabaret. It is our mission to:
- Provide benefit cabaret performances, largely free of charge, as fundraising vehicles for other charitable organizations in the Chicagoland area;
- Increase awareness, understanding, and enjoyment of modern cabaret,; and
- Present our use-what-we-have-to-do-what-we-can approach as inspiration for others to do the same.
Acts Of Kindness Cabaret provides a professional show, including 3 professional singers and a pianist, lighting and sound equipment, a professional sound person, a set-up and tear-down crew, printed programs, and a host of other services. The benefiting organization promotes the event to their consitutents and community, sells the tickets and, aside from reimbursing us our very modest expenses for the evening, they keep all the proceeds. As of December 1, 2011 Acts Of Kindness Cabaret has raised a total of over $200,000 for area charities, all through cabaret performance.
Our goal is to offer 8-10 benefit performances each year. We currently (as of Dec. 2011) average between 4 and 6.
All types of non-profit organizations are eligible to receive a benefit performance from Acts Of Kindness Cabaret, with the exception of political and religious organizations. However, if your church or synagogue has a pet project/organization they raise money for, we would happily do a benefit performance through your house of worship to help that organization, provided it is neither political or religious.
