Located in southern Chile, the Fundación Huilo Huilo was created in 2004 with the aim of preserving the valuable local heritage, integrating the surrounding communities, and developing a sustainable future. During the last 10 years, we have developed multiple projects for conservation and environmental education, research, restoration, dissemination, training and promotion aimed at ensuring the care, preservation and protection of nature and ecosystems of the native forest, including our flagship project which has been the successful reproduction of the southern huemul deer in a controlled environment.
In other respects, we have consistently supported the educational, cultural, social and economic development of the people of the surrounding communities of Neltume, Puerto Fuy, and Lago Neltume through workshops for crafts, art, as well as various cultural festivals and related activities in order to promote tourism that sustains site development while protecting nature and conservation activities.
Our mission is to protect and conserve the temperate rainforest while integrating the surrounding communities in order to improve the quality of life for present and future generations. With this objective we develop scientific, educational and social programs aimed at changing old paradigms, and encouraging small business and the sustainable development of the area.
Our vision is that through the rescue of natural and present cultural values, the local community develops a sustainable economy, to provide a better quality of life for its members, living harmoniously with the environment, basing its development in the valuation, conservation and dissemination of the temperate rainforest, aquatic systems and other ecosystems present.
