Thoreau Community Center

Our organization has the mission to "...inspire hope, joy, and progress..." We were started after a tragic cluster of youth suicides. It was a stark wake up call that the youth in this rural, "checkerboard Rez", area needed help and support from the community. We provide a range of services from afterschool tutoring, music classes, cultural learnings, and leadership trainings to adult cooking classes, aerobics classes, and AA support groups. We also house the only public computer lab or digital library within 300 square miles and are will offering computer literacy programs and business computer skills at our site shortly. Finally, we host special events such as holiday gatherings, speakers, and seminars that help bring the community together. We are very excited about what we have done so far, and can't wait to expand our services as our capacity grows!
