About Us

South Louisville Community Ministries (SLCM) has been serving and participating in our community since 1975 and have evolved to where we are today as advocates for our neighbors through collective compassion. We believe that it’s not just one organization or one policy or one of anything that is going to make sure our entire city is safe, healthy, and happy. We have to work in collaboration through communication, problem solving, and trust even amidst failures.

SLCM was originally founded by local churches to better serve those in need. In the early 1990s, the Association of Community Ministries was formed to ensure all of Jefferson County was supported. This network now includes 15 respective nonprofits that serve the most vulnerable in our defined areas.

SLCM serves our neighbors (40208, 40209, 40214, and 40215) in their greatest time of need to prevent their crisis from turning into catastrophe. Our community extends to 72,407 people and we struggle with the second highest poverty rates in Louisville, but we believe that through collaboration and kinship, we can be that compassionate home base to everyone.
