Good Cheer Food Bank & Thrift Stores

Good Cheer Food Bank is located on the south end of Whidbey Island with a mission of creating a hunger-free community. Our food bank is a model for grocery-style service. Individuals needing food assistance receive a monthly budget of points based on family size which allows them to “shop” for food that fits their personal tastes and dietary needs. Whole and healthful foods cost fewer points so shoppers don’t have to sacrifice quality for quantity. Two Thrift Stores provide a source of income for our organization; individuals with a background in retail management will find this position a particularly unique opportunity. Donations received and prepared by staff at our donation center supply a steady stream of used clothing and household essentials to share with people that need material support beyond food. 1.5 acres of garden space supply our food bank, and occasionally partners, with fresh fruit and vegetables year round, especially in the winter when visits to the food bank are the highest. The Community Connection–our newest program–guides clients in accessing other resources and services in our community. In addition to the Executive Team, Good Cheer has 21 FTEs and numerous volunteers.
