  • About Us

Brooklyn Kindergarten Society (BKS) has dedicated itself to providing high-quality early childhood education to children from low-income families for the last 125 years. Our five early childhood learning centers, soon to be six, are located in public housing in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Crown Heights, and Brownsville. We serve nearly 400 children in full-day educational classes, each enriched with pre-literacy and language programs as well as arts and music instruction.

BKS recognizes that families--the key to children’s success -- often benefit from resources and support beyond the classroom. To that end, our social service staff provides counseling, referral services, and workshops for children and their families.

In 2015, BKS piloted the Family Child Care Partnership (FCCP). In this new and innovative program, BKS is seeking to provide more vulnerable Brooklyn children, from birth to age five, with access to high quality early childhood experiences that prepares them for success in school and life.Through FCCP, family child care providers are supported by BKS staff at their locations through coaching, modeling, and professional development.
