Tufts University - Department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning
The MA program in the Department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning (UEP) at Tufts prepares a new generation of leaders – ‘practical visionaries’ – who will contribute to the development of inclusive and sustainable communities. A nationally accredited program, it is distinct from many other planning and policy programs by having a strong social justice focus. It is the right place for you if you are interested in becoming a talented thinker and practitioner to engage and confront the social and environmental challenges in today’s world of rapid urbanization.
Hands-on learning environment
One of the best things we offer students is the kind of learning, mentoring, and substantive knowledge and skills to prepare you for your dream job. Over time, we have consistently cultivated a welcoming and accessible environment for students, with ample opportunities for sharing and nurturing, both inside and outside of the classroom. Our students have won three of the last six American Institute of Certified Planners National Student Planning Awards. UEP faculty are nationally and internationally renowned experts in planning and policy. Many students also have the opportunity to work as research assistants with UEP professors.
Engaged community strategy
UEP has extremely strong connections to our local and regional communities, so students can expect to be involved with real-world issues and problem-solving. Our location in Somerville and Medford, with easy transit access to Cambridge and Boston, puts dozens of different urban communities within easy reach and exploration, and provides a variety of fieldwork, job and internship opportunities.
