La Charla

La Charla is a nonprofit organization dedicated to decreasing teen pregnancy and increasing access to higher education by empowering teens with the knowledge and capacity to make informed choices about their futures.

Founded in 2015 by Simone Ippoliti, La Charla has its headquarters in San Francisco and its operations based in the small rural town of Troilo, Nicaragua, located northwest of capital city Managua. Simone soon discovered that peer-based education was the most effective with this type of messaging, and the La Charla (“the chat” in Spanish) was born.

Today, La Charla has graduated numerous classes of students who not only stay with and teach the program to others but have earned university educational grants through the La Charla Foundation.

Prior to establishing La Charla in Troilo, not a single student from the town had ever progressed to the university level.

La Charla is more than just a teen pregnancy avoidance program; it is a hand-up to a small but deserving population of young people in one of the most challenged areas in the western hemisphere.
