About Us

A.S.H.A. is an abbreviation for the Association for Social and Humanist Action. A.S.H.A. was founded in 2007 by Joseph Paul. Joseph has extensive experience in social services in Mumbai, including work at various mental health institutions, de-addiction centres, cancer counseling cells, social anxiety treatment centers; and helped to set up the Department of Social Service for the BSES Municipal General Hospital. He was inspired to start A.S.H.A. after field visits to the slums showed conditions of poverty and poor health despite the upward economic development happening in other parts of Mumbai. Today, A.S.H.A. provides free medical, psychological, educational and social support to underprivileged communities all over Mumbai through free medical health camps reaching hundreds of community members each month.
