Whiskers and Tails

What we do - We save the lives of animals by helping the humans who care for them.

First and foremost - We believe that you cannot help animals unless you help their humans too.   

Whiskers and Tails was created for families and individuals who want to keep their companion animals at home with them no matter how bad they are struggling or how hard times are.  Those are the families that we work so hard to help. Once a family or individual is referred to us we have them fill out an application so that we can see what their needs are More often than not it is basic life needs and the need for animal medical care. 

When the family or individual has been approved, we go to work immediately to fill as many of their needs as we can.  

​     We provide a list of local resources for utilities, mortgage or rent assistance, food pantries,

thrift stores, adult education, employment opportunities and transportation to and from medical appointments for seniors, veterans and the physically and emotional impaired families and individuals that we are trying to provide assistance for. 

​       We make an appointment with our vet to get the companion animal in as soon as possible. We also provide transports for the companion animals of seniors and veterans so they can make it to their appointment. 

         We put together a list of the family or individuals needs from both their application and an in home visit. Needs such as small home repairs, safety equipment, furniture, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, human and animal foods and other basic life needs. Care packages are put together. Volunteers go in and make repairs or add safety rails or wheel chair ramps, etc. Animal care supplies and items as well as items for the families and individuals are delivered monthly. 

       We also match up case workers by need to our seniors, veterans and family members who have issues that are related to food stamps, Social Security and in home care. 

​          We make sure that the companion animals that we work with are Up to date on their shots, spay or neutered, given an overall check up, given parasite control and are offered vet visits at a minimum of twice per year unless they have ongoing or chronic conditions. We also purchase prescription foods for companion animals as prescribed by the vet. Our program also covers the purchase of medicine for companion animals and over the counter meds and diabetic supplies for seniors and veterans.

       During the summer months our families receive fans, air conditioners and blocks of ice. Their window and door screens are replaced to keep bugs out and we offer an all natural bug spray for both the inside and outside of their homes. They are also offered light cotton sheets and other light weight covers and comforters. 

         During the winter months our families receive heaters, furnace repairs, blankets, products that keep foods and drinks warm and they are given coats, hats, gloves, scarves and blankets. 

We also offer a book and hobby program for our seniors and veterans.  

​        For survivors of domestic violence we direct them to safe out of area housing, we help with furniture, clothing, toys, animal care supplies and items, basic life needs items, direction to employment, adult education and of course case workers to help with other areas of need. 

​               Whiskers and Tails has safe, private, feral & stray feeding and wellness stations that offers food, a safe warm place to sleep and if we discover that the dog or cat is a lost animal - we return him or her back home. All but ten of our ferals at our station are altered, UTD on shots and vetted. We are in the process of humanely trapping the last ten as of the time we edited this site.

​Who we serve - Our programs are offered to seniors, veterans, emotionally and physically impaired, victims of domestic violence and to low to no income families and individuals and of course their companion animals.
