Stain'd Arts

Stain’d Arts is a multidisciplinary 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which both publishes work, and hosts cultural events. Our annual programming includes: a print publication, an online journal, publishing independent artists, publishing collections of poetry and short stories, hosting community events on a weekly and monthly basis, running a reading series, and hosting multiple performance-based events.

We create avenues for emerging and subversive artists outside of the dominant narrative to engage audiences in dialogue through story, art and nuance. Stain'd Arts is striving to curate art and experiences which defamiliarize. Defamiliarization is an artistic technique which enhances an audience's perception of the familiar by subverting held beliefs. We believe this exchange creates the potential for a radically compassionate space to emerge between artist and audience.

Our work is based on the philosophy that art which disrupts unexamined beliefs is art doing its best work in society. This approach of seeking the unfamiliar asks of us as arts curators to strive to elevate voices and artists whose work is not typically seen in the mainstream consumption of art and culture.
