About Us

Flat Rock Brook is a 35 year old,150 acre preserve and environmental education center. Flat Rock's nature center is comprised of a main meeting room, a combination kitchen/classroom and a greenhouse. App. a year ago, the center's roof was fitteed for solar panels. The facility houses administrative offices and is used for education programs, rentals and special events. We have over 3.5 miles of trails that provide ideal surroundings for bird watching and hiking. A small picnic/playground area is also available. Our education programs are offered to members, the general public and school groups. These programs are designed to encourage an awareness and appreciation of nature and to promote a better understanding of today's environmental issues. Nature walks, special animal presentations, exhibits, lectures and field trips are offered throughout the year. A re- cycling center has recently been added to our public services. Additionally, a summer day camp is offered from the end of June - the end of August. Our special events include Members Day, Nature Day, a Holiday Sale and our Volunteer Recognition Luncheon. There is no admission fee. The organization is supported through member fees, fundraising, program grants and rentals. Flat Rock Brook is committed to providing a leadership role in environmental education and awareness in Northern New Jersey.
