About Us

There are four positions available for the Latin American Youth Center AmeriCorps team 2011-20012. Please see a short listing of the job descriptions below. Full Time Ed Position: Member Duties: Assist the teacher in the classroom with lesson plans and assist students in their class work. Work with 6 students who are below grade level to improve their academic skills. Plan activities for the students in the In-School and After-School Programs. Coordinate special programs in After School such as: sports teams and clubs.

Full Time Service Learning Position: Member Duties: Implement a service learning curriculum and civic engagement workshops in the classroom to DCPS middle school students and local charter school students. Facilitate the coordination of student-led community service projects.

Full Time Health Team Position: Member Duties: Implement a variety of health curricula in the classroom to DCPS middle school students and local charter school students. Receive training and conduct workshops on topics including, but not limited to, HIV, STDs, Puberty, Healthy Relationships, Drug and Crime Prevention, etc.

(For all three positions) Term of Service: All corps members serve for one year from; September 1, 2011 to August 31, 2012. Schedule: 9:00am to 6pm. Ages: 17-26 Program Benefits: Childcare assistance if eligible, Education Award upon successful completion of service $5,350, Health Coverage, Living Allowance $1600 monthly before taxes, Training, Uniforms provided and required. Service Areas: Community Outreach, Children/Youth Development, Education. Skills: Writing skills, Good Communication, Ability to Work on Teams, Creativity, Bi-lingual in Spanish (not required but is a plus).

Part Time Ed Position: Member Duties: Lead after-school programming and activities from 2pm - 6pm Mon-Thurs. Participate in training from 1pm - 5pm on Fri. Assist students in completing their homework. Tutor students, when needed. Coordinate special programs in After School such as: sports teams and clubs.

(For part-time position only) Term of Service: All corps members serve for one year from; September 1, 2011 to August 31, 2012. Schedule: 2pm to 6pm M-Th/ 2pm to 5pm Fri. Ages: 17 to 26 Program Benefits: Childcare assistance if eligible, Education Award upon successful completion of service $2,675, Health Coverage, Living Allowance $830 monthly before taxes, Training, Uniforms provided and required. Service Areas: Community Outreach, Children/Youth Development, Education. Skills: Writing skills, Good Communication, Ability to Work on Teams, Creativity, Bi-lingual in Spanish (not required but is a plus).
