About Us

The mission of the Jewish Book Council is:

  • To promote the reading, writing, publishing and distribution of quality Jewish content books in English.
  • To serve as the national resource center for information about the American Jewish literary scene.
  • To serve as the coordinating body of Jewish literary activity in North America in both general and Jewish venues.
  • To serve as the North American representative of Jewish literature on the international scene.


Jewish Book Council is a not-for-profit organization that serves as a bridge between the Jewish community and publishing. Jewish Book Council sponsors the Jewish Book Month, National Jewish Book Awards, the Sami Rohr Prize for Jewish Literature, National Jewish Book Club, JBC Network tours, the Natan Book Award at Jewish Book Council, and public programs like the Unpacking the Book series, among other things. JBC publishes Paper Brigade, an annual literary journal, and has an active website—updated daily—which features reviews, articles, interviews, blog posts, and much more.
