    The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

    Special Olympics is the world's largest public health organization serving people with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Louisiana offers over 100 sporting events and training camps to accommodate the wide range of athletic interests demonstrated by its athletes. Athletes are divided to compete against others of similar gender, age, and ability. Special Olympics Louisiana does not charge a fee to athletes (or their families) to train or compete.
