About Us

For over 55 years, The Opportunity Tree has been committed to providing quality, individualized support to people with physical or intellectual challenges in a dynamic, creative and fun environment.

The Opportunity Tree is an organization with roots that trace back to the early days of the civil rights movement for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities—going back to 1955. In that year, the Arizona Society for the Brain Injured was founded with the goal of giving children the opportunity to develop the capabilities to live happy and fulfilling lives.

In 1963, The Opportunity Tree was created when the Arizona Society for the Brain Injured and the Self Aid Workshop merged. Through this merger, our organization was set up for a successful future and evolution that includes: expanding to Casa Grande and Maricopa, and adding Vocational Programs, Residential and Respite Programs as well as a new Creative Arts Program.

In 2018, The Opportunity Tree began offering a Youth Transitions Program, allowing us to come full circle to embrace our history of serving the youth of Phoenix, Casa Grande and Maricopa into the future.
